Swedish racing star Richard Göransson enters Rally Sweden

Richard Göransson has entered Rally Sweden 2011.

He is the reigning Swedish Champion in one of the toughest European Touring Car Series, STCC.

Göransson will compete in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X that he bought from the Finn Sebastian Lindholm.

– Now my dream will come true. I have always had a dream of driving Rally Sweden, Richard Göransson says,

Richard Göransson is 32 years old and is one of the leading racing stars in Sweden. He was born in Örebro, the town in Middle Sweden that also saw the Formula 1-driver Ronnie Peterson and the 1984 World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist growing up.

As a young boy Göransson many times went to Karlstad and Värmland to follow Blomqvist and all the other rally drivers in the Swedish part of the Championship. Now he will be there himself.

– I find it most inspiring even if I am very humble. I have a great respect for my fellow competitor´s skill and my first goal is to take the car to the finish, he states.

In fact Richard Göransson is a very experienced racing driver. He is a four times Champion in the Swedish Touring Car Championship and also European Champion in Formula Ford and in 2005 he was the winner of FIA European Touring Car Cup. He has been awarded BMW Sports Trophy twice as the best BMW privateer during the season.

As a rally driver he is not that experienced. He has entered three national level rallies.

– But there will be more to come before Rally Sweden. I have planned test driving and a number of local rallies and I need lots of training with pace notes.

But in the future Göransson wants to combine racing and rallying. Rallying in the winter season and racing in the summer.

– I am already planning for entering the second round of the Swedish Rally Championship before the racing season starts, he declares.
