Rally Sweden is the only winter rally in the WRC and offers a unique challenge with its snow-covered stages in Västerbotten. The event has long been a favourite among the competitors, reflected this year by a 59-car entry list for 2026.<\/p>\n

“It’s fantastic to once again have such a strong field, and to have Swedish crews with real potential in every WRC class. Rally Sweden is a unique adventure as the championship’s only winter rally, and a favourite for many drivers from around the world. The work from everyone in the organisation is extraordinary, and we look forward to welcoming the competitors to a fantastic event in Umeå in a few weeks,”<\/em> says Clerk of the Course Stig Rune Kjernsli.<\/p>\n

Swedes back in Rally1<\/h2>\n
Oliver Solberg’s 2025 season can only be described as a fairytale. The Swedish talent switched to Toyota, claimed his third consecutive WRC2 win in Umeå in dominant style, and impressed in the WRC when he stepped in for the championship round in Estonia — a chance that Solberg and co-driver Elliott Edmondson seized with both hands, taking the first Swedish WRC victory in 27 years.<\/p>\n
The season ended with a WRC2 world title and a permanent seat with Toyota’s WRC team for 2026. It marks the first time since 2022 that a Swedish driver competes full-time in the top category.<\/p>\n
In WRC2, three Swedish crews are aiming to follow Solberg’s success in Umeå. Isak Reiersen \/ Stefan Gustavsson return for their third start in Västerbotten, and after a fifth place in 2025, a podium is within reach.<\/p>\n
Mille Johansson \/ Johan Grönvall won the Junior WRC title last year and earned four rounds in WRC2 with M-Sport Ford. Rally Sweden will be their first event of the new season.<\/p>\n
Skåne driver Adam Grahn made his WRC debut in last year’s Rally Sweden and now steps up to WRC2 with JC Raceteknik and co-driver Christoffer Bäck.<\/p>\n
In Junior WRC, Sweden will be represented by last year’s Junior ERC champion Calle Carlberg with co-driver Jørgen Eriksen, who take on the full world championship season after their European title.<\/p>\n

World championship contenders battle for crucial points in Umeå<\/h2>\n
Alongside Oliver Solberg, Toyota fields five GR Yaris Rally1 cars. Reigning Rally Sweden winner Elfyn Evans, Takamoto Katsuta and Sami Pajari represent the factory team, while Prada CEO Lorenzo Bertelli returns for another start in Umeå.<\/p>\n
Hyundai brings two former Rally Sweden winners: Thierry Neuville and returning Esapekka Lappi. Adrien Fourmaux drives the third i20 N Rally1.<\/p>\n
M-Sport Ford arrives with a young and ambitious line-up. Joshua McErlean enters his second WRC season, while newcomer Jon Armstrong steps up to Rally1 after a strong year in ERC. Latvia’s Mārtiņš Sesks, Ford’s top finisher in Rally Sweden 2025, once again joins the team for the snow and ice challenge.<\/p>\n
In total, 11 Rally1 cars will compete at Rally Sweden.<\/p>\n
30 cars in WRC2<\/h2>\n
The Rally2 category continues its rapid growth, with 30 entries in the prestigious WRC2 class. In addition to the three Swedish crews, Norwegian Jens Hvaal competes in a Škoda, and a strong Finnish contingent includes Mikko Heikkilä, Roope Korhonen, Teemu Suninen and Tuukka Kauppinen.<\/p>\n
One of the longest-travelled entrants is Cristian Baumgart from Brazil.<\/p>\n
Junior WRC launch their season in Sweden<\/h2>\n
It has become a well-established tradition that Junior WRC starts its season in Umeå. Seven young talents compete for JWRC points, and 13 Rally3 cars will line up at the start. Alongside Sweden’s Calle Carlberg, Turkish drivers Ali Türkkan and Karem Kazaz return to Sweden to begin their fight for the junior title.<\/p>\n

26 classics in Rally Sweden Historic<\/h2>\n
Fans of rally history will have plenty to enjoy during Rally Sweden Historic. A total of 26 cars will compete on Friday and Saturday, including last year’s winner Tobias Johansson in his Audi Quattro, who will battle Vännäs local Nils Östgård in Jari-Matti Latvala’s Toyota Celica. Two-time Rally Sweden winner Mats Jonsson also appears in a Toyota Celica.<\/p>\n
The field features a wide range of iconic cars such as the Opel Kadett, Volvo 240, Saab V4, Volvo PV and Ford Escort.<\/p>\n
A new addition for 2026 is a dedicated class for more modern Group H cars, featuring Norway’s Dave Eggum in a Volvo 940 EVO and Vännäs driver Johan Sandow in a Saab 900.<\/p>\n
