From 18–21 February 2027, Umeå and Västerbotten will once again welcome the world’s best rally drivers as Rally Sweden returns – the only true winter rally on the FIA World Rally Championship calendar.
Next year’s event will also mark the beginning of a new era. From 2027, the WRC will introduce an entirely new set of technical regulations, with a new generation of cars – WRC27 – taking to the stages. A new promoter will also take over the WRC.
The new regulations have been developed to make the top category more accessible and create opportunities for more manufacturers and constructors. The cars will remain four-wheel drive and will be built around a safety cell, powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, while costs will be significantly reduced compared with the current Rally1 generation. The regulations will also allow considerably greater freedom in vehicle design.
– 2027 will be a very exciting year for the entire World Rally Championship. We are entering a completely new era with new cars, new technical regulations and a new promoter. At the same time, we are working intensively to develop Rally Sweden and create an even better event for both the competitors and the fans, says Anna Nordkvist, CEO of Rally Sweden.
Work on Rally Sweden 2027 is already well underway. Since this year’s event concluded, preparations have been ongoing for a new route combining both new and familiar elements.
– Work on the following year’s rally begins almost as soon as the previous event is over. We have many exciting things in the pipeline for 2027 and are really looking forward to gradually revealing more, says Anna Nordkvist.
For Swedish fans, there is another reason to look forward to Rally Sweden 2027.
Oliver Solberg has established himself among the very best in the world, with four victories and a recent runner-up finish in the FIA World Rally Championship with Toyota Gazoo Racing. In 2026, the Swede began his first full factory season with Toyota by winning Rallye Monte-Carlo and arrived at Rally Sweden as the leader of the World Rally Championship standings.
– Having a Swedish driver fighting at the very top of the world championship means a great deal for rallying in Sweden. Oliver has already shown that he can win at this level, and the opportunity to see him compete on home soil is naturally something very special for the Swedish fans, says Anna Nordkvist.
Since the move north, Umeå and Västerbotten have established themselves as the home of Rally Sweden. The combination of a snow-sure climate and fast winter roads provides the conditions for an event unlike anything else in the World Rally Championship.
Behind the event lies almost a full year of work and an extensive commitment from clubs, officials, partners, landowners and many others. Thousands of people contribute every year to the delivery of one of Sweden’s largest recurring international sporting events.
With the dates now confirmed, preparations for 2027 continue.
Rally Sweden 2027 takes place from 18–21 February.
