The sport of rallying is entering a new era. Today, the FIA announced a landmark long-term commercial rights agreement for the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and FIA European Rally Championship (ERC), following the acquisition of WRC Promoter GmbH by Cosmobilis and Park Square Capital.
Described by the FIA as the biggest deal in the history of the championships, the agreement brings an unprecedented level of investment into rallying. Its aim is to strengthen both the WRC and ERC through greater global reach, enhanced fan experiences, improved broadcast and digital platforms, and new opportunities for organisers, competitors and commercial partners.
The new promoter will be led by former Formula 1 executive Éric Boullier, who, together with the FIA, has outlined a clear vision to develop both championships into even stronger global brands.
The investment comes at a pivotal moment for the World Rally Championship. In 2027, the new WRC27 technical regulations will be introduced, while the FIA will also establish an international Growth Fund to support the development of rallying at every level – from grassroots competition to the FIA World Rally Championship.
Anna Nordkvist, FIA Vice President for Sport (Europe) and CEO of Rally Sweden, sees the announcement as an important milestone for the sport.
“Today is an important day for rallying. This agreement is much more than a commercial milestone – it is a long-term commitment to the future of our sport and to everyone who makes rallying possible.”
“As CEO of Rally Sweden and Royal Rally of Scandinavia, I see every year what strong collaboration between the FIA, the promoter, organisers, host cities, volunteers and partners can achieve. This agreement provides an even stronger platform to continue developing both championships and delivering world-class events for competitors and fans alike,” says Anna Nordkvist.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem described the agreement as “the deal of the century for rallying.”
“This is a transformative investment on a scale never before seen in rallying. It will deliver real benefits for fans, competitors and our member clubs around the world, while demonstrating strong confidence in the future of our sport,” says Ben Sulayem.
The newly appointed CEO of WRC Promoter, Éric Boullier, believes the agreement creates a unique opportunity to further develop both championships in the years ahead.
“Our ambition is to make every rally a spectacular event that excites fans around the world. Together with the FIA and our partners, we want to continue developing the WRC and ERC into world-leading championships while building a sustainable future for rallying,” says Boullier.
For Rally Sweden, the announcement means continuing its work as part of a World Rally Championship with ambitious plans for the future. Rally Sweden in Umeå is confirmed as a round of the 2027 FIA World Rally Championship, when the new WRC27 regulations will make their debut and a new chapter in rallying begins.
