The Norwegian Mads Østberg won the first regular special stage in Rally Sweden 2011and set off to a flying start for this years rally. Østberg was a second ahead of Mikko Hirvonen over the 24,63 kilometer Vargåsen stage. 7th time champion Sebastien Loeb was first on the snowy road and lost a lot of time and was over 40 seconds behind Østberg. The rally leader after the super special stage, P-G Andersson hit a snowbank and rolled to his side and lost over a minute in the overall standing.
